Term 3 Week 6 - Wednesday
Welcome to another wonderful day of learning in Year 0/1 at Elm Park School. Here are today’s tasks;
Literacy:
Reading:
Our Learning Intention is: We are learning to read CVC words.
Watch the superhero training video to help you practice this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tihG_MkyokM
Writing:
Learning Intention: We are learning how to use our word card to help us record sight words and sounds
in our writing.
Imagine you are a REAL superhero.
What kind of costume would you wear?
What would your super powers be?
Someone at your house might like to help you to record the initial sounds that you can hear. You may
be able to write a sentence or even a whole page all by yourself. Just do your best :)
Remember to use your alphabet card to help you record the sight words and sounds.
Feel free to take a photo and email your writing to your classroom teacher.
Numeracy:
Learning Intention: We are learning to take away from a set of objects (subtraction).
Watch this video to help you warm up your subtraction skills:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkPa9V2wtZs
Think about which of the following is going to work for you and try the below activities to help you get
adding!
Subtraction from 5 eg: 5-2=
Subtraction from 10 eg: 10-5=
Subtraction from 20 eg: 20-15=
Subtracting 2 digit numbers eg: 72-20=
Ask someone at home to write out some random subtraction problems and see if you can solve them.
You could use some of these strategies to help you.
I Spy:
Enviro:
Today we are learning about how we can save energy and why it’s important.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_zaxqj6P-Y&t=39s
Watch this video and brainstorm some ways that you could save power while staying at home.
Science:
Today we are learning about why it is so important to wash our hands properly.
You will need:
a bowl of water
pepper
Soap
Method:
Put some water into your bowl and sprinkle a generous amount of pepper over the top. Stick your
finger into the bowl and see what happens. Does the pepper stick to your finger? Now rub your hands
with soap. Stick your finger back into the bowl. What do you notice this time?
Watch the video below to see Mrs August from Room 5 demonstrating this science experiment with her
helpers.
Thank you so much for learning with us today. Tune back in tomorrow for some more distance
learning lessons with your Year 0/1 teachers. :)

Wow! Mrs August that was such a clever experiment! I am going to make sure all my family AND myself wash our hands carefully. Thank you for showing us that with your lovely helpers.
ReplyDeleteToby loved watching that experiment with the pepper. In his own words - "That's crazy!"
ReplyDeleteI must admit Toby and his sister are very good at washing their hands and even err on the side of washing them too much sometimes!
