Term 3 Week 6 - Monday

Term 3 Week 6 - Monday

Welcome to another wonderful day of learning in Year 0/1 at Elm Park School. Here are today’s tasks;

Literacy:

Reading:

Our learning intention is: We are learning to recognise and make compound words.

A compound word is made up of two different words. See the example below.

Play with game to see if you can make some more compound words

https://www.education.com/game/compound-word-fish/

Task: Can you find some ‘Compound Words?’, and write them down. Have a look in books that you

have at home, or magazines, posters and junk mail from the letterbox.

Writing:

Learning Intention: We are learning how to use our word card to help us record sight words and sounds

in our writing.

Have a look out of your window. What can you see? Today we are going to use this as some writing

inspiration.

Watch this video to see how Mrs August uses her word card to help her.

You might like to write along with Mrs August today. You may be able to write a sentence, or even a

page all by yourself! Just do your best :)

Feel free to take a photo and email your writing to your classroom teacher.

Numeracy:

Today our learning intention is:

We are learning which numbers are bigger and which are smaller.

Play ‘Guess My Number’ with your family.

Instructions: One person chooses a number. This could be between 0-10 or anything less than 100 depending on

what numbers you are currently working with. Keep that number a secret in your mind. The people who

are playing with you have to guess what number you are thinking of by asking bigger or smaller

questions, for example, “Is your number smaller than 10?” or “Is your number bigger than 15?” So much

fun! Have a go!

Visual Art:

Raku Inoue is a Japanese artist who makes lovely creations using twigs, leaves, petals and other things that can be

found in your garden.

Take a look at these amazing pieces of art that Mrs Halliday from Room 27 managed to create.

PB4L Values:

Elm Park School has three very important values; Respect, Responsibility and Resilience.

This term we are learning how to show resilience. Today we will be learning to develop confidence to

help us make better decisions and manage ourselves.

Watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsNRVm3YR_I about being confident.

What made the boys lose confidence?

How did they gain their confidence again?

What important lesson did they learn?

We will always make mistakes and fail but that doesn’t mean we will never be able to do something.

Tying your shoelaces:

This is a great skill to have. Remember, practise makes perfect! Watch the video below to learn how to

tie your shoe laces.

Thank you so much for learning with us today. Tune back in tomorrow for some more distance

learning lessons with your Year 0/1 teachers. :)
